Checklist: everything you must not forget for your canoe trip (including kids & dog)

Checklist: everything you must not forget for your canoe trip (including kids & dog)

On an early summer morning, when the mist still hangs over the Maas, you hear the cheerful barking of your dog and the excited calls of your children on the riverbank. It promises to be a day full of adventure – provided you don't forget anything important.

Well prepared on the water

A canoe trip with the whole family and the dog is not just an outing; it is an experience. Anyone who sets out without proper preparation may encounter surprises along the way. That’s why a comprehensive checklist, like this “Checklist: everything you must not forget for your canoe trip (including kids & dog),” is no unnecessary luxury.

What should you bring? The checklist for a successful day on the water

Of course, it seems simple: put on a life jacket, grab a paddle, and head out for adventure! Yet there are countless small things that make the difference between pure enjoyment and unnecessary stress. Here you'll find a handy selection, tailored to families and four-legged friends:

Supplies for everyone

  • Life jackets: Always included at Kajak Maasland – safety first!
  • Sunscreen: You can get sunburned quickly on the water too.
  • Hat or cap & sunglasses: Protection against the bright sun.
  • Wearing old sports shoes is recommended. (Bare feet can get hurt along the water, which is why we recommend against it!)
  • Spare shirt & towel: For after a refreshing swim or a sudden shower.
  • Bottles of water & snacks: Plenty to drink and some treats for the journey.
  • Drybag: To keep your valuables dry. These are available for purchase at Kajak Maasland so your smartphone, keys, or wallet won’t get wet if anything goes wrong.
  • Picnic blanket: Perfect for a break on a hidden beach.

Specially for the children

  • Extra dry clothes: Little adventurers get wet quickly.
  • Swim rings/waterproof jackets: For the really young paddlers.
  • Binoculars or magnifying glass: Spot birds and insects together during the trip.

For the dog

  • Dog leash (and possibly harness): Mandatory on the shore, preferably off on the water.
  • Own towel: For dirty or wet paws.
  • Water bowl & fresh water: The Maas is beautiful, but not always suitable as a drinking water source.
  • Snack or reward bone: This will keep your dog happy all day!
